“Tapa Hei’au Tower”

Proposed Mobile Sculpture
Hilton Hawaiian Village
Tapa Tower

Soaring vertical metal poles and asymmetrical horizontal rods are held together with simulated lashings in metal.
The hanging metal panels are incised with traditional Hawaiian tapa patterns. The panels turn gently with the Trade Winds.
My tapa tower was in part inspired by this Weber print which shows the traditional structure of an early Hawaiian Hei’au.
