| Not too long ago just the sight of these "ingiet" figures would strike fear into a Tolai person. They were (and are) identified with the "taraiu" the secret, sacred place of the Tumbuan - the powerful mask and spirit figure that underlies all Tolai culture and social structure. Ingiet figures were (are) also believed to be useed by local priests for magic and were (are) placed in graves. | ||
