| The patterns on this thick tapa are drawn freehand. The paints are made from charcoal for black, certain muds for browns and plants for red. The designs can represent important plants or animcals especially insects. Some designs are owned by individual clans. Performers wear this tapa during "SingSings" and other celebrations and rituals. It is also given as a ceremonial gift and is a valued trade commodity for other areas of Papua New Guinea.
