| Birds and fish are very important in the subsistence life style of the small outer eastern Solomon islands. They are often depicted on art forms including these bowls which hold family offerings to the dead and clan spirits. Some are kept in private homes, others are placed in the men's houses. The wood is usally a soft pine, nautilus shell inlay is used for the inlay and the dark color is obtained from charcoal and tree sap.Others available | ||
