BOKOLO (Clan Treasures) Western Solomon Islands Carved from fossilized tridachna shell these images with ancestor figures, rings and hornbill birds were greatly valued up to the l920's. They were exchanged on the marriage of a chief's son and for other important rituals. If taken by an enemy their possession symbolized the defeat of a clan. Bokolo were also placed by the skull hut of a deceased chief.
