| Bokolo highly valued clan treasures made from fosialized giant tridachna (clam) shell. The images represent the horn bill bird -symbolic of headhunting which was practiced in this area - and the shell money rings depicting wealth. These bokolo would be found on the skull huts of chiefs, and were also used as bride's price for a chief s son. Other images include ancestor figures in the traditional knee, elbow chin pose. Originally they were carved out by using a bush saw, ones of this type have not been made after l920. Recently new ones are being created using power tools, they retain the aesthetic beauty of the older ones, but do not have the cultural importance.Old: | ||
