| This figure with a hook top is known as a Makenebul. It was part of the 1968 ceremonies to celebrate San Claut of Tongpalm village achieving the naem grade in the Nimangki a secret men's society. We collected it in Tongpalm which is high on a thickly forested steep and inaccessible ridge in North Ambrym in May l990. In situ photographs are available. Sculpturally we feel this is the finest example of this style in any collection or in the field. | ||
