| The Marshall Islands are highly skilled navigators. One of the ways this "Wayfinding" skill is taught even today, is by the use of "Stick Charts." Constructed of palm strips and sometimes shells for islands one kind indicates the location of the various Marshall Island atolls. Others incorporate the most sophisticated concepts of mathematics and geometry in depict currents and the wave swells (refraction) around islands. These "Stick Charts" are used only on land. Long admired by sailors for their innovative way of teaching navigational skills they are also highly regarded by artists for their aesthetic, abstract composition | ||
